Silverado Canyon Cafe is located in the tiny town of Silverado in the hills above Orange County. It’s hard to believe that less than 20 miles from Disneyland, such a place still exists.
The food here is your basic diner fare: hamburgers, sandwiches, and breakfast items. Most customers are locals, but the price is right, and you won’t find many small-town diners like this in Orange County.
If you’re planning to hike or mountain bike in the canyon, the Silverado Canyon Cafe is the only place to grab a bite before heading out.
Silverado Canyon Cafe is across the road from the United States Post Office. From the outside, it looks like a western saloon you might find in a ghost town. The interior has a countertop with stools, a couple of booths, and dining tables. Nothing too fancy, but it does the job.
Silverado Canyon, located in Orange County, is among the few remaining rural communities. It was once a thriving mining town that produced silver and coal. The town had daily stagecoach service to Los Angeles and Santa Ana. Currently, the canyon has weekend vacation homes and permanent residents.
Most visitors to Silverado Canyon hike, drive, or mountain bike up to Modjeska Peak (Saddleback Mountain) for a spectacular view of Orange County. Note: the road up to the Modjeska Peak may be closed to vehicles during the fire season.
Silverado Canyon Cafe is located halfway up Silverado Canyon Road. It is a small diner that you would expect to find on Route 66 back in the 1960s. The cafe may not be visually impressive outside or inside, but it offers fresh food for the tired traveler.
Address: 28272 Silverado Canyon Rd, Silverado, CA 92676. Open six days a week. 7:30 am to early evening. They are closed early on Sunday.

I absolutely love this place! I’ve been going there on and off for 35 plus years! Is it gourmet? Absolutely not, but really good country food in a rustic environment. I’ve spent the last 50 years of my life in very high stress executive level positions in corporate America. That said, once in a while, I get in one of my cars, drive the canyon roads and get back to basics and wind up this great country cafe for breakfast or lunch! Love it!
