Many Southern California residents are lucky enough to have a citrus tree in their backyard. For those who don’t know Heritage Park La Verne, U-Pick Oranges is the place to go.
Every January through mid-March, The La Verne Heritage Society offers U-Pick oranges on Saturdays. For $5.00, visitors get a bag that they can fill with oranges or grapefruits.
Today, La Verne has only one remaining orange grove located at Heritage Park, operated by the La Verne Heritage Society. Heritage Park also has the historic Weber house, a barn, a windmill, a vegetable garden, and about 150 mature citrus trees.
U-Pick Oranges area is available until the trees are picked clean. You can go to the grocery store and pick up a bag, but they don’t taste the same. Tours of the Weber house are also available on picking days, and Heritage Park has an excellent play structure to amuse younger children.
Annual events at the park include a Christmas tree lot, a Pumpkin Patch, summer concerts, and U-Pick Oranges from mid-January through March. Or until the orange trees are picked clean.
La Verne is situated below the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. This area was called the “Heart of the Orange Empire,” with acres of citrus trees.
Heritage Park La Verne 5001 Vía De Mansion, La Verne, CA 91750. website. Phone 909 293-9005. Call ahead for the availability of U-pick Oranges.
